About Wellness Explained

The evidence, in plain language.

Evidence-based, myth-busting explainers that translate the science of nutrition, supplements, and hydration into plain language.

Every piece answers one question — is this actually true? — and surfaces the answer up top as a plain verdict, then walks through the evidence behind it. We favour primary sources, name the uncertainty when it exists, and keep the language ordinary.

Wellness Explained is an independent publication with no brand, seller, or sponsor behind its verdicts. The people below are journalists and explainer writers, not clinicians: they read the research, check the claims, and report what the evidence supports. Our articles are written for general education and are not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always consult a qualified clinician about your individual circumstances.

The desk

Marian Voss Editor & fact-check lead
Runs the desk and owns the CLAIM/VERDICT standard — every explainer crosses her before it publishes. A former newspaper standards editor, she writes about nutrition and how a single number ends up repeated as settled fact.
Theo Halloran Supplements & nutrition science
Covers the supplement aisle and the studies behind it — collagen, multivitamins, detox claims, vitamin C. Reads the trial, checks who funded it, and writes about the gap between a label's promise and its evidence.
Priya Nandakumar Hydration & physiology
Writes about water, electrolytes, sleep, and metabolism — the everyday physiology people most often get wrong. Translates dense research into plain answers and names the uncertainty when the data is thin.
Declan Osei-Bryson Myths & health culture
Traces where popular health beliefs come from and why they stick, from the ten-percent-of-your-brain myth to “sitting is the new smoking.” Fact-checks the folklore and reports what actually holds up.
